NHS Apologises

🌟 The Scarborough Rundown - Events, Activities, Live Music & Good News! 😊

In partnership with

Hey Scarborough! Here's what's happening this week 👋

It has been a rough month for the local NHS, with bosses forced to apologise for the "dramatic increase" in 12-hour trolley waits. Seeing over 700 patients stuck in corridors is a tough pill to swallow for Scarborough and York. It is clear that the winter surge hit hard, and the apology comes as cold comfort for those who spent half a day waiting for a bed.

Looking ahead to March, the local Punk Festival is proving to be a massive draw. The final passes for the 28th and 29th are currently being snapped up by those eager for a bit of high-octane live music. If you want to join the chaos, you have been warned: once they are gone, they are gone.

Finally, we are keeping a close eye on the Yorkshire Wolds. The transition to a National Landscape is progressing, promising better protection for our stunning coastal and inland vistas. However, it is not all sunshine and birdsong; local farmers are rightly concerned about the impact of new regulations. They are worried their fields will be frozen in time by planners who do not understand the needs of a modern farm. Balancing nature with industry is never simple, and this row is far from over.

Set in the market town of Helmsley, this hotel suits a relaxed spa break focused on comfort and downtime. It combines traditional Victorian features with a more modern boutique feel, and the overall pace is calm and unhurried.

The on-site Verbena Spa is a big part of the appeal, with thermal experiences, a heated outdoor pool, and a wide range of treatments that work well for either a full spa day or an overnight stay.

Dining is another reason people stay put, with menus based around local Yorkshire produce and the option of afternoon tea or poolside dining in warmer months. It's a good choice if you want a peaceful countryside stay that's easy to reach and simple to plan.

📰 Scarborough Life

🏥 The Waiting Game. NHS bosses have apologised after over 700 patients faced 12-hour trolley waits at Scarborough and York hospitals in December. Pack a flask and a thick novel if you're heading to A&E this winter.

🎾 Squash in the Sunshine. New plans could see padel courts built on a derelict patch in Cayton. It’s basically tennis for people who find running across a full-sized court far too much like hard work.

🤘 Safety Pins at the Ready. You’ll need to move fast to catch the Punk Festival on 28th and 29th March. The final few passes are vanishing, so don’t say we didn't warn you.

🌳 Wolds of Wonder. The Yorkshire Wolds are a step closer to becoming a National Landscape. While 85% of locals are cheering for the puffins and gannets, some farmers fear the new status might ‘pickle’ their fields in red tape.

🛗 Going Down? Not Likely. Protesters braved the gales to save the Whitby Cliff Lift from being filled with concrete. Our MP reckons it’s the ‘golden tourism goose’, though North Yorkshire Council might still scrap it.

🚂 The Sconesman Cometh. If you missed Valentine’s Day, pull it out of the fire with the Flying Sconesman. Treat your better half to a cream tea and a return train ride, running daily until 22nd February.

🎨 A Brush With The Law. The Royal Hotel is re-painting its façade after a pink mix-up left it without consent. They’ve submitted new plans to ensure the hotel's look fits the West Cliff’s heritage.

🌌 Look Up, Scarborough. Pretend you know your constellations from your streetlights at the Dark Skies Festival. It’s the ideal excuse to stand in a damp Dalby car park throughout February and March.
