Winter Chaos Is Not Over Yet. Snow Expected to Last Until April
๐ The Scarborough Rundown - Events, Activities, Live Music & Good News! ๐
Hey Scarborough! Here's what's happening this week ๐
Alright, we are kidding. But with the amount of weather talk flying around this week, it probably did not sound that unrealistic for a second. Amber alerts, snow warnings, icy pavements and travel worries have definitely been dominating the conversation lately, so consider that headline a small attempt to cut through the doom and add a smile ๐๐before we get into it.
Yes, Storm Goretti is still causing chaos, and it is sensible to stay informed, but there is still plenty happening beyond the forecast. This weekโs Rundown balances the practical with the positive, from updates on winter conditions to things that give you something to look forward to once you have thawed out.
There has been plenty of chatter about gritting and slippery pavements, with residents and businesses feeling the effects of the freeze. It is one of those very unglamorous topics that suddenly becomes important when you are trying not to slide down the high street.
Looking ahead, there is brighter news too. Whitby Steampunk Weekend is already building excitement for February, promising creativity, costumes and a much-needed splash of colour.
Closer to home, The Three Jolly Sailors in Burniston is teasing a refreshed menu, which feels like excellent timing for comfort food season.

๐ฅถ Snow, ice and freezing fog threaten weekend plans. The Yorkshire coast is braced for more wintry weather with yellow warnings active. Hills could see fresh snow, roads may ice over fast, and conditions could change quickly.
๐ฉ Whitby Steampunk Weekend returns this February. Goggles, gears and glorious outfits take over Whitby as thousands descend for a free, festival-style weekend of creativity, traders and talks. Victorian flair meets seaside chaos, and the costumes alone are worth the trip.
๐ถ Icy pavements spark gritting debate on the coast. With shops clearing snow themselves and customers slipping, questions were raised over the winter response. The council says resources were focused where they mattered most, but admits freezing weather made conditions tough all around.
๐ Menu refresh teased at Burniston village pub. The Three Jolly Sailors is rolling out an updated menu this February, promising elevated pub favourites, fresh additions and sneak peeks along the way. Same heart, sharper edges, and comfort food done properly.
๐ Calls for honesty over long-promised A64 upgrade. After 40 years of talk and little action, councillors say itโs time to stop dangling false hope over dualling the A64. With trust wearing thin, politicians are being urged to get real about the roadโs actual chances.
๐ญ Shakespeare with beer, chaos and moonlit mayhem. Four Forty Theatre returns to Wold Top Brewery with a brilliantly bonkers take on A Midsummer Nightโs Dream. Expect rapid-fire role swaps, sharp comedy, open-air vibes and a drink included. Theatre, but make it fun.
โ๏ธ Boycott returns as Scarborough cricket drama eases. After weeks of uncertainty and a leadership overhaul, Sir Geoffrey Boycottโs suspension as club president has been reversed. The club says little, but the move closes a turbulent chapter for Scarborough cricket.
โ๏ธ Burniston drilling plans stuck in planning tug-of-war. Councillors want to hit pause on the Burniston gas scheme until new national rules are finalised, while the company says thereโs no legal reason to wait. Expect more debate before any final decision lands.
๐น Scarborough Spa braces for very grown-up panto chaos. The Adult Panto Tour is back with a strictly adults-only Beauty and the Beast. Packed with innuendo, big laughs and bold performances, it promises a night that definitely would not survive a school run.
๐๏ธ Scarborough Athletic hold their nerve over pitch repairs. Structural issues forced the Seadogs on the road this season, but club chiefs remain upbeat. No start date yet, but confidence is high that the pitch will be ready and the club back home next year.
๐๏ธ Scarborough residents invited to decide where ยฃ20m gets spent. Big money, big choices. Locals are being asked which regeneration projects should shape Scarboroughโs future, from Old Town upgrades to youth spaces and theatre improvements. This is one of those rare moments where opinions actually matter.
๐ Historic Scarborough hotel saved from future changes. The Clifton Hotel, once home to Wilfred Owenโs wartime writing sessions, is now listed for its heritage value. From turret rooms to poetic legacy, this buildingโs story is now firmly protected.
๐ฅ๏ธ New website aims to simplify MP support for locals. Scarborough and Whitby MP Alison Hume has launched a one-stop online space where residents can follow her work, request help, book appointments and keep tabs on whatโs happening locally and in Parliament.
๐ 80s new wave icons China Crisis set Scarborough date. From Smooth synths to chart classics, China Crisis are stopping off at Scarborough Spa this May. Expect big choruses, retro vibes and a crowd packed with people who still love a proper melody.
