Alright, we are kidding. But with the amount of weather talk flying around this week, it probably did not sound that unrealistic for a second. Amber alerts, snow warnings, icy pavements and travel worries have definitely been dominating the conversation lately, so consider that headline a small attempt to cut through the doom and add a smile 😀😀before we get into it.

Yes, Storm Goretti is still causing chaos, and it is sensible to stay informed, but there is still plenty happening beyond the forecast. This week’s Rundown balances the practical with the positive, from updates on winter conditions to things that give you something to look forward to once you have thawed out.

There has been plenty of chatter about gritting and slippery pavements, with residents and businesses feeling the effects of the freeze. It is one of those very unglamorous topics that suddenly becomes important when you are trying not to slide down the high street.

Looking ahead, there is brighter news too. Whitby Steampunk Weekend is already building excitement for February, promising creativity, costumes and a much-needed splash of colour.

Closer to home, The Three Jolly Sailors in Burniston is teasing a refreshed menu, which feels like excellent timing for comfort food season.

📰 Scarborough Life

🥶 Snow, ice and freezing fog threaten weekend plans. The Yorkshire coast is braced for more wintry weather with yellow warnings active. Hills could see fresh snow, roads may ice over fast, and conditions could change quickly.

🎩 Whitby Steampunk Weekend returns this February. Goggles, gears and glorious outfits take over Whitby as thousands descend for a free, festival-style weekend of creativity, traders and talks. Victorian flair meets seaside chaos, and the costumes alone are worth the trip.

🚶 Icy pavements spark gritting debate on the coast. With shops clearing snow themselves and customers slipping, questions were raised over the winter response. The council says resources were focused where they mattered most, but admits freezing weather made conditions tough all around.

⚖️ Burniston drilling plans stuck in planning tug-of-war. Councillors want to hit pause on the Burniston gas scheme until new national rules are finalised, while the company says there’s no legal reason to wait. Expect more debate before any final decision lands.

🌹 Scarborough Spa braces for very grown-up panto chaos. The Adult Panto Tour is back with a strictly adults-only Beauty and the Beast. Packed with innuendo, big laughs and bold performances, it promises a night that definitely would not survive a school run.
